Fr. Tollefson's Litany of Tranquility
This past Sunday, Fr. Tollefson's homily addressed the God-intended purpose of anger, and how we can use this emotion in a positive way: to correct an injustice and cast out evil. He explained that what we do with anger can be used for a good, or can be sinful. Fr. Tollefson invited you to take a copy of the Litany of Tranquility that he left in the back of the church. If you weren't able to pick up a copy, or if you were watching from home, below is the litany.
Fr. Tollefson's Litany of Tranquility
From passivity that ignores injustice, good Lord deliver us.
From nursing the memory of injury, good Lord, deliver us.
From passive-aggressive anger, good Lord deliver us.
From internalized anger that feeds on pride, good Lord, deliver us.
From blasphemy, good Lord deliver us.
From abusing our authority, good Lord deliver us.
From being tethered to the anger of our parents, good Lord, deliver us.
From oversensitivity, good Lord, deliver us.
From using anger to manipulate others, good Lord, deliver us.
From harboring resentment, good Lord, deliver us.
From revenge, good Lord, deliver us.
From the desire to punish our offender, good Lord, deliver us.
From frozen anger, good Lord, deliver us.
From unforgiveness, good Lord, deliver us. Amen.
